Honours in Biological Sciences

The Honours year provides an opportunity for highly achieving students to participate in the research of the School of Biological Sciences during a fourth year of undergraduate study. Honours students work on a research project in collaboration with one or more supervisors from the School's staff. Our research effort spans all levels of biological organisation, from molecules to ecosystems. Projects within the School regularly attract financial support from the Australian Research Council, government agencies, and industry. Our findings, including the results of many honours projects, are reported in some of the world's leading scientific journals.

Students interested in genetics, molecular biology, and developmental biology typically enrol in GEN4100 and GEN4200 for the honours year. Students interested in organismal biology, ecology, and conservation biology typically enrol in BIO4100 and BIO4200. However, many projects overlap these two broad areas (e.g., conservation biology based on molecular genetic data) and may be offered as either GEN or BIO Honours.

Please note that the date for students beginning honours in 1st  image of a student taking care of plantssemester 2009 is now the week beginning 16th February. See the 'Honours FAQ' link if you're interested in applying.
